Latest Notes for our game.
WE had our first meeting on how to do our Aliens game. The topics w ere:
1) The barriers
2) Giving the Marines a chance
3)Things to do in the next week.
1) The Barriers, The barriers are what block line of sight and hinder the marines shooting the heck out of the aliens were the barriers. We are playing the part of the movie where the Marines go into the cooling towers and get ambushed by the Aliens.
In the past we used empty carboard boxes covered with black refuse/garbage bags. Well it worked rather well for the number of barriers we wanted. We play in an area around 25 by 55 ft approx. Alot of boxes and alot of garbage bags. On the plus side the boxes were Cheap= Free. Garbage bags.. under 15 bucks for 50 bags. Also we re-use the garbage bags even more.
Negative side. The boxes are not sturdy, they bottom of the boxes shows from where the garbage bags are not long enough to cover them. Alot of boxes to transport.
We have decided to try to make a proto-type stand made out of PCV pipe, and draped with some cheap dark fabric.
Plus side to this is that it will look better. Might be easier to transport and have a varied look.
On the negative is cost and time to make the Stands?? Well see when we make a prototype of our stand and get the fabric.
2) The Marines are 0 and 6 that means, they have yet to make it to the end. Though that is in keeping with the movie, we do want to give them a fighting chance as slim as it might be. Some ideas are that they be given more grenades, to giving them a staircase shortcut, to making it easier for them to kill aliens. All these ideas are being mulled over by the administration. Check out our forums on these dicsussions.
3) The last thing is that we need to have a working PCV pipe stand with fabric made by the end of this week.. That means by Saturday march 8th. This is to determine how much it will cost and how viable it will be to make them in time for KublaCon

Well I Well I took the plunge and bought 600 ft of PVC pipe. It was around 80 bucks. Not bad for so many feet. I bought the 3/4 inch pipe since it was cheaper than the half inch. I was thinking I saw a Ebay listing for 200 corners for 22 bucks.. well I couldn't find the great deal on the corner fittings and infact they are quite costly. Soo For all the fitting I we need for all the boxes it will be 159 bucks and change.. Whew!!! That is quite a chunk of change.. and on top of that there is the T-shirts I make and I am running a tab over 300 bucks..
I haven't bought the fittings yet but I have to talk it over with Steve and see what he says.. in the mean time if you have some extra cash or want to donate to the cause you can send me money at saulster@sbcglobal.net via paypal I have an account there. Most likely I will pay via PayPal so I will have an account and all money will go directly to buying stuff for the Aliens game. SHEETs.. I need more CLOTH!!! Well with a case of Step throat I was out for most of this week. Last week we had no luck in finding alot of dark colored fabric/material to drape over our newly devised PCV pipe barriers. Steven who seemed to forget about his end of the deal said he could make one up in five mintues.. Well its been two weeks and a few more sets of five minutes and we still don't have the PCV pipe frames. The problem I had with this idea is that people kept saying it was three months til KublaCon but I know how time flies.
So I am still optimistic about our new PCV frames. I think the hard part will be the fabric to drape or hang off the pcv frams. So that is where we stand I plan on going to a couple of other fabric stores, thrift stores or even a flea market this weekend. Also any good pics that you find out there would be good. I am looking specifically for pictures of Aliens that would could be printed on iron on T-shirts to give out at KublaCon. There is a new Aliens PC/console game coming out and it looks way cool.. Glad its coming out for the 360 cause I don't think my vid card can handle the PC version. See ya all soon. Saulster |
